Well…its been a very long week. We’re sorry for the delay since our last post. Angela has spent a week at ANW now, this week Meredith spent time at both grandparents house (so have I) and had a little of everything going on.
Angela basically spent the entire week in bed. I gave her a wheelchair ride last week and then another one tonight. The weather was nice so we spent some time in a little courtyard area outside the entrance of ANW. We had a little time outside to enjoy the sounds of some birds and a waterfall. Angela commented how she really misses our backyard. Hopefully I have it in good shape when she and the kids come home later this year. It was a really nice break for Angela tonight, even if they only let her out for 20 minutes. They started giving her an injection of a blood thinner daily to help reduce the risk of blood clots. During the week, she’s also been having heart tone ultrasounds done daily. They take a quick peek of the babies and their hearts to make sure that everything looks good. She’s been a bit sick this week too. Even at the completion of her 23rd week, she’s still taking a chemo patient dose of antinausea medication almost daily. Angela’s mother, Becky, made the trip up to Minneapolis for the past weekend. It gave Angela the chance to have someone with her all day for a couple days as I was busy (I’ll explain in a minute). It was so nice for Angela because she understands how terrilby boring it is in that room all day. Thank you so much, Becky!!!
The big news of the week happened tonight. Every day they have Angela wear a moniter to check for contractions. She is having contractions, but they’re telling us that its nothing to worry about. BUT…We felt the babies move from the outside for the first time. It was so cool to feel them moving all over her belly. The boy seems to be the mover and shaker in there.
I was not around the weekend as I had some friends volunteer to help with some of my projects around the house. Its all starting to come together. We moved all the furniture to the basement. Our new bedroom is finally done so that stuff was moved downstairs and the spare bedroom was moved upstairs temporarily. That will eventually be the new nursery. We moved all the living room furniture downstairs so that we’ll have room for what I’m calling “Baby Land.” This way everything associated with the babies will be on one floor. After stuff was moved, the guys helped with some projects outside that have been on my to do list for months. This stuff would have taken days if I did it on my own. We were done in a few hours, which gave us a little time to have a couple beverages and then head in to town for a Twins game. Kind of my chance to get out of the house with friends. The Twins (and the Royals) played horrible, but I had a great time with the guys. I really needed that time to cut loose a bit and take my mind off things for a while. Pip, I’m right about Morneau and Hrbek!!!

After everyone left on Sunday, I hopped in the van for Rock Rapids to go get Meredith. When I got to Oma and Opa’s house, Meredith ran to me and gave me a hug. It was the first time that she squeezed me back. I loved that. It may sound a bit sappy, but I really don’t like it that we’re missing out on things like this. Oma also taught her to kiss!!! We’re still working on it, but its so cute. Meredith was sick during the week with vomiting, a very good fever, a cough, and runny nose. She didn’t really sleep at all on Sunday night when I was there. I worked on Monday in Sioux Falls and then made the trip to Tama (Angela’s parent’s home) in the afternoon which turned into evening. That was a really long drive, but I can’t imagine how long it was for her. I left Meredith today in Tama for the rest of the week. I slipped out the door while her Great Gandmother Katherine was reading to her. I’m not sure if she cried, but I do know it was hard on at least one of us. I put more than a 1000 miles on the van since Sunday.
That brings me back to where I’m sitting now, on a crappy couch in Angela’s room where I’m gonna spend the night.
Thank you so much to our parents for your sacrifices to help out with Meredith. Thank you so much to Adam, Clark, Nathan, Brendon, and Kate. Kate is the nurse at ANW that Brendon said something inappropriate to while we stopped by for a quick visit on Saturday before the game. Seriously though, thanks Gentlemen! If you know them personally, I use the term loosely.
